On 25th May 2018, new EU regulations come into effect which are commonly reffered to as the GDPR regulations. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will strenghten data protection for all citizens within the European Union. GDPR is good news for members. It makes it easier for you to access your personal information and control how it is used.

Member Notice Savings Cap

In recent years, Thurles Credit Union (TCU) has experienced a significant increase in the level of savings held by members. In 2018 alone, our savings increased by €7.46 million. Under Central Bank regulations, all credit unions are required to maintain reserves of at least 10% of our assets.

Member notice for Online Banking Changes

Please note that we will be introducing some improvements to your Online Banking experience over the coming months. These changes are in preparation for compliance with European banking regulations - Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2) - which come into force on September 14th 2019. These regulations bring additional safety and security to your online banking.

Due to the rise of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) within Ireland, we thought it to be prudent to share some of the additional ways you can access your Credit Union services.

Join Us

Joining Thurles Credit Union is the best decision you could make for your money. We accept new members of all ages from our surrounding areas in our common bond. This covers the Thurles Postal district with the exclusion of Borrisoleigh, Castleiney, Drangan, Fethard, Mullinahone and Templemore. Member must Live or Work within the common bond area.

How To Join

*In order to apply for membership, you must present yourself at the Credit Union office with the following documentation:

  • Valid Photo ID -a passport or driver's licence
  • Proof of Address - a bank statement or utility bill dated within the past 6 months
  • Proof of PPS number (e.g. Official Government Document, Social Welfare letter etc.)

If you don’t hold a passport or driver’s licence please ask in your local credit union about alternative documentation that may be accepted in exceptional circumstances.

Persons wishing to open a new member account should:

  • ensure they have all the necessary documentation required
  • allow sufficient time for staff to process the membership application and meet our regulatory obligations

Members Benefits

Flexible & Convenient Loans

Members can take out flexible loans and repay at tailor-made schedules. All our loans are fully insured (for free) against disability or death, subject to policy requirements.

Interest is charged on Reducing Loan Balance

Interest is charged on the reducing loan balance - you only pay interest on what you owe. This means lower interest charges paid over the life of the loan.

Not-for-Profit Mutual Financial Co-operative

Thurles Credit Union is a not-for-profit mutual financial co-operative. Members own and control the Credit Union. All surplus goes back to the members.

Dividend on Savings

Last year, we paid a 0.1% dividend on members' savings, which are also placed in our Life Insurance scheme, offering a free insurance system on your savings.

You can be assured of a professional, quality service from Thurles Credit Union in all dealings with your money and we don't charge hidden fees.

Pay by Direct Debit

Arrange a Direct Debit payment from your bank and be sure of regular payments to your Credit Union account. We will send you a statement showing all transactions.

Member Services

Take advantage of a host of additional member services available. We have arranged special house and travel insurance discounts for our members. See our Available Services page for more details.
